Salisbury City Police has been plagued with issues for years. An acute lack of staffing is the first problem, brought on by a lack of funds being paid for increases. Salisbury City Police Officers are paid substantially less then their Ocean City counterparts, yet deal with increased risk to themselves and a substantially more hostile environment. Second, the city police has much younger officers working for them. This doesn't mean that they are any less competent but with experience comes good police work. Refer to problem number one, the turnover rate due to low pay and high stress.
So, knowing the problems these are the solutions: Start paying the police more... Only hire laterals for several years, this will allow the current younger officers to gain more experience while seeding the department with more experienced officers. Allow prior officers to come back that have since quit. The "No Hire" policy after an officer leaves is stupid when we are faced with this amount of crime. Enhance the level of training provided. Training is cheap and give officers the opportunities to learn new things they can apply directly to the road. If administration is slipping or not being involved or glossing over things or never seen, replace them with administrators that are effective. Obviously something is wrong with the current rate of crime. Battles over statistics are moot and stupid. Crime is bad, any idiot can see that. Lets do something to combat the problem instead of resting on our laurels and egos.

That $100,000 spred out among the road cops would have made a great bonus, and morale booster. What a waste of cash.
No Argument!
They need a retired Trooper in there with the black & gold bible to fix the place right up.
Anon 5:14 I agree and from what I hear there may be one on the way.
Anon 7:02 we the people can only pray that you are right. If this article is true, which is highly doubtful, the councilwomen are not the only ones that want this man gone.
I was being smart when I suggested the Trooper & MSP manual. Too many big heads out there from that agency already. Talk about back stabbing, power hungry policing. You dont need men to do the job if you train them to be robots by taking away descretion and the problem solving ability. Remeber, the MPTC card is the same color no matter the agency.
