So, we are going to give you our short form positives of heads of administration. This does not mean we either support or do not support the following people. We are simply pointing out their benefits to personnel, the department, and the community. Your opinion may differ of course and we would like you to share your opinion.
Starting with Sheriff Mike Lewis of the Wicomico County Sheriffs Office. Sheriff Lewis has drastically improved road equipment for the agency, specifically the in car agency computers, radar, upcoming E-Ticket and general road units (black and whites) which are equipped with much greater warning power then the previous vehicles. Sheriff Lewis has improved training for officers by allowing a more expansive firearms training program. Sheriff Lewis has also stood behind personnel in various matters that were deemed appropriate. Several matters he did not stand behind personnel because they were involved in criminal conduct, all in an off-duty capacity, which he has no control over or tolerance for, nor should he. Three years ago Sheriff Lewis also added a ACE team and sent several employees to marijuana eradication by use of helicopters and additional out-of-state training for personnel for drug interdiction.
Chief Webster of the Salisbury City Police Department has hired new personnel on a routine basis and in fact does attend many meetings. The Chief also has steadily attempted to obtain higher pay rates for personnel but , in years past, has met with limited results due to budgeting issues coming from the city council. The Chief has, when staffing levels were good, attempted to make changes by instituting new units (or improved units) such as the CAT team and traffic enforcement unit. Many new officers at the Salisbury Police Department, although young, are also very professional personnel that continue to develop into fine police officers.
Chief Philips of the Fruitland Police Department is a recent addition and has been a shot in the arm for moral for the Fruitland Police Department. Many officers enjoy working for him as he continues to upgrade equipment and training. Philips is currently developing programs and plans to curtail criminal activity within the Fruitland area. He is also currently the most popular administrator on our voting system.
Chief Saylor of the Delmar Police Department is a laid back administrator that is easy to get along , drama free, and professional. The department statistically retains more personnel than the others and has just added a K-9 unit to their staff.
Chief Lashley of Salisbury University Police, who is also a newer arrival, promoted a more proactive environment. He expanded the roll and responsibility of department officers for backing up, responding to calls, and assisting the Salisbury Police Department in college residential areas off the college campus.
What are your thoughts?
